Join for a vibrant celebration honoring the final week of Kinfolk Tech’s exhibition Dreaming with the Archives at Brooklyn Bridge Park on Saturday, August 23. This special closing event will weave together music, movement, and cultural memory. Experience the rich tapestry of diaspora culture through an immersive musical journey. Their featured DJ will craft a distinctive set that pays homage to memory, diaspora, and cultural heritage, creating a sonic landscape that celebrates the connections between past and present.

This celebration draws inspiration from Ari Melenciano’s augmented reality artwork “Birds of Unfeathered,” an innovative installation that explores the movement of sound and identity across diasporic, ecological, and geopolitical borders. The project’s title plays with the familiar proverb “birds of a feather flock together,” asking profound questions about kinship and connection: What happens when the markers that bind us are not visual or ethnic, but sonic? Can we recognize one another not solely by appearance, but by resonance?

This lens of sonic kinship and diasporic connection informs our closing celebration, where the DJ’s set becomes a space for exploring how sound transcends borders and creates new forms of community and belonging.

Come be part of this meaningful conclusion to an exhibition that has brought together art, history, and community in the beautiful setting of Brooklyn Bridge Park. All are welcome to join this celebration of culture, memory, and the power of collective dreaming.

Free and open to the public.

Kinfolk Tech’s Dreaming with the Archives AR Exhibition

ABOUT DREAMING WITH THE ARCHIVES

Dreaming with the Archives is a public art exhibition that transforms Brooklyn Bridge Park into a canvas for radical imagination through augmented reality (AR). As you move through the Park, your mobile device becomes a portal through which to encounter immersive AR monuments created by visionary artists Ari Melenciano, Olalekan Jeyifous, Kiyan Williams, Wangechi Mutu, Jeremiah Ojo, and Hank Willis Thomas. Each of the artists created site-specific artworks to honor the abundant flora, fauna, agriculture, skilled laborers, — enslaved and free — and the sounds that make up the rich cultural history and ecology of Brooklyn and the African diaspora.

Free and open to the public. Download the Kinfolk app and visit Brooklyn Bridge Park to experience the full exhibition, June 19 – August 30, 2025.
