DESCRIPTION:Join Brooklyn Bridge Park to celebrate Earth Day with special programming on Saturday, April 25!\n\nJoin Brooklyn Bridge Park horticulture and education teams for hands-on, craft-making activities that use plant materials from around the park; activities will rotate throughout the day.\nLearn about the international 2026 City Nature Challenge (taking place April 24 – April 27) and learn how you can participate and contribute to NYC&#8217;s bioblitz!\nEducation &amp; Horticulture Walks: Join Brooklyn Bridge Park educators and horticulturalist for free family-friendly nature walks throughout Pier 1:\n\n11:30 Intro into Birds and Birding\n12:00 PM Take a Walk with an Arborist &#8211; Learn about the park’s trees and how we care for them with BBP’s arborist\n12:30 PM Tree ID 101\n1:00 PM Squibb Landing Plant Walk &#8211; Come learn about the plants and design of Squibb Landing with the zone’s dedicated gardener\n1:30 PM Intro into Birds and Birding\n2:00 PM Empire Fulton Ferry Plant Walk &#8211; Come learn about the plants of EFF and Max Family Garden with the zone’s dedicated gardener\n2:30 PM Insects at Brooklyn Bridge Park\n\n\n\n\nVolunteer with a Green Team session! Join for a hands-on volunteer activity with a Green Team session at 1:00 PM at Pier 1 Bridge View Lawn. All participants are required to sign a waiver upon arrival (all ages welcome but those under 18 must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian, and those under 16 must be supervised at all times). Closed toe shoes are required.\nLearn about volunteering at Brooklyn Bridge Park: Speak with volunteer staff and volunteers to learn about ongoing volunteer opportunities at Brooklyn Bridge Park.\nJoin Re:Create Plastics for a Bottle Cap Upcycling demonstration to learn about different types of plastic and learn how recycling in NYC works – as well as how small plastics like bottle caps and lids that are often lost or rejected from traditional recycling can be collected and transformed through community micro-recycling and using 3D printers. See examples of plastics sorted by types, examples of 3D printed useful items from plastic scraps &#8211; and watch some being formed, and learn more about how you can take part. Feel free to bring clean bottle caps for recycling!\nStop by NYC Ferry&#8216;s table to learn about their ferry service, discounted tickets and Ferry Discount Programs, and enjoy NYC Ferry themed coloring pages for kids and families to enjoy at the event, or take home for later use.\nLearn about natural fabric dying with local biodesigner Tajah Ellis and bring natural materials (cotton/silk/linen) to dye with indigo for your own custom piece. Her work with bio-materials and ecological excavation for dyes and pigments transforms plant matter into a vibrant range of colors, textures, and patterns. Items for dying should be washed ahead of time with a PH balanced soap and no softeners or dryer sheets used.\nLearn about composting with Big Reuse. Learn how to use finished compost for your plants and gardens and take some home with you. They will also be giving away free kitchen compost containers (while supplies last).\n\nWe&#8217;ll also have a donation/recycling collection for textiles, gently used books, gently used children&#8217;s clothing and toys, and e-waste, as well as paper shredding.
