Join us and learn about the vital roles of urban woodlands like Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pier 1 habitats! To celebrate the third annual City of Forest Day Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy’s education team will have forest themed scavenger hunts and prizes for children and families on Saturday October 26 from 10:00am-12:00pm near Granite Prospect at Pier 1.

Teens can also take part in our City of Forest Day: Teen Service Day!

Over 500 trees are planted on Pier 1.

Several park structures have green roofs, which serve to absorb rainwater, provide building insulation, and create new habitats for wildlife and lower urban air temperatures.

Trees, lawns, and shrubs are managed organically

The Pier 1 storm water containment tank has a capacity of over 100,000 gallons. The water is re-used for 70% of the park’s irrigation needs.

The park’s lighting system is controlled in zones and can be dimmed to conserve energy without compromising park safety.

The Park is managed ecologically.
