by Brooklyn Bridge Park on Jun 5, 2019

Brooklyn Bridge Park today announced the appointment of Deputy Mayor Vicki Been as Chair of Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Board of Directors. Been’s membership to the Board of Directors is as an Ex-Officio member, or by virtue of her position as Deputy Mayor of Housing and Economic Development. Mayor De Blasio appointed Been as Chair of the Board. The seat was vacated upon the departure of Alicia Glen, who held the position since 2014. Brooklyn Bridge Park is currently 90% complete and open to the public.

Brooklyn Bridge Park is governed by a 17-member board of directors appointed by the Mayor of New York City and chosen by the Mayor of New York City, the Governor of New York State and local elected officials. BBP’s Board is primarily responsible for reviewing and approving the Park’s annual budget, and authorizing significant contracts and capital projects.

“Brooklyn Bridge Park has transformed New York City’s waterfront into a destination that welcomes more than 5 million visitors annually,” said Vicki Been, Deputy Mayor for Housing and Economic Development. “As Chair, I will continue the work the de Blasio administration has done to build on the park’s success – while also securing the park’s financial future.” “Deputy Mayor Been brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in land use, urban policy, and community development,” said Eric Landau, President of Brooklyn Bridge Park. We’re very excited to work with her, as her leadership will be instrumental for the Park’s continued growth and success.”

“The Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy is so excited that Deputy Mayor Been is chairing the Corporation,” said Chris Coffey, Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy Chairperson. “She has a deep long standing commitment to Brooklyn as demonstrated by this appointment. We had a fierce and determined advocate in Alicia Glen who fought for the park. We are enthusiastic that Deputy Mayor Been will continue to advocate with her time and energy.”
