Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy (Conservancy) is excited to announce a new partnership with Smorgasburg to provide food and drink vending at this year’s Movies With A View series.
Going into its 19th year, Movies With A View attracts tens of thousands of people each summer to the waterfront park. Sweet treats, savory snacks, and drinks, including beer and wine, will be made available by Smorgasburg. Moviegoers will be able to enjoy cheeseburgers and crab cakes from Burger Supreme, crab cakes from Musser’s Famous Crab Cake Sandwiches, Belgian-cut fries and fried chicken sandwiches from Home Frite, pizza by Wood Fired Edibles, and homemade ice cream from Bona Bona Ice Cream. Food options will rotate throughout the season, with new concessions added every week.
“We can’t wait to bring together two Brooklyn institutions on the waterfront for food, film, and fun,” said Smorgasburg co-founder Eric Demby. “It’s gonna be a delicious summer.”
“This partnership will certainly enrich our audience’s moviegoing experience,” said Nancy Webster, Executive Director of the Conservancy. “A cool breeze from the river, the Manhattan skyline, and food from Smorgasburg — what else could you ask for on a summer night in Brooklyn?”
“Movies With A View is one of the premier summer events at Brooklyn Bridge Park,” said Eric Landau, Brooklyn Bridge Park President. “We look forward to welcoming back moviegoers for another season and are thrilled that Smorgasburg will be part of it with a variety of concessions.”
In addition to food, each night will also include pre-show music sets spun by Brooklyn Radio DJs, and short films curated by Bamcinématek.
The theme for this year’s 8-week-long film series is SHE DIRECTS, and it will celebrate the work of women, trans-women, and genderqueer directors. The lineup includes classics like Susan Seidelman’s Desperately Seeking Susan, and recent hits like Patty Jenkins’s Wonder Woman. The directors of this year’s shorts and the DJs are all women and trans-women, too.
“The works represented in this year’s lineup are meant to reflect the richness of women’s voices,” said Devin Mathis, the Conservancy’s Director of Programs.
Movies With A View kicks off on July 12, and runs weekly on Thursdays through August 30. Pre-show music and food offerings begin each evening at 6:00 pm, with the movies screening at sundown. Online voting for the final screening opens on May 25 and closes on June 24.
Movies With A View is one of 500+ free and low-cost events put on by Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy every year.
