May 17 @ 11:00 am 3:00 pm

Join us for a day of sky-high fun at our annual Kite Festival! This is the one day each year when kite flying is open to the public in the Park—so don’t miss your chance to see the sky fill with color against the stunning Manhattan skyline.

Bring your own kite, purchase, or make one on site, and take part in a joyful spring celebration for all ages. Variety of kite options for sale range from $10-30 (cash or credit). Enjoy hands-on crafts, classic lawn games, live music, face painting, and engaging activities from local community partners – see the full list of performances and activities below! Whether you’re a first-time flyer or a seasoned pro, this is the perfect opportunity to welcome the season with a breeze. This is a free event.

For event updates and announcements, subscribe to our email and socials (X, Facebook, Instagram). Also check our Alerts & Event Updates page. Please note this event is subject to change to weather or other extenuating circumstances.

PARTNER & ACTIVITY STATIONS

Be sure to stop by for all of the exciting partner and activity stations throughout the day!

  • Park Slope Parents: bring their famous huge bubbles!
  • Brooklyn Public Library: fly high and make a paper helicopter that twirls, leaps and soars! They also lead a Storytime at 1:00 PM.
  • Big Reuse: will be teaching about composting, giving out informational materials and 1-gallon kitchen containers for the City’s mandatory curbside composting program.
  • ReUp Wellness: join for their Wellness Sticker Station  to”Let Your Dreams Soar”, Rest & Recharge Station to “Catch the Wind, Find Your Calm”, and Community Kite Activation “Together We Soar”
  • Trail Blazers: Kites may seem like toys but they have taught us a lot about flight! Over time, kites have been replaced by airplanes – stop by to make and fly your own paper plane.
  • Brooklyn Bridge Park Education Team: Learn about the fine feathered friends that fly across Brooklyn Bridge Park! Our activities and games will test your knowledge of our Park’s local bird species. Measure your wingspan, feel and examine real feathers, and identify bird songs! Waddle over because we’ll have some egg-cellent interactive visuals and field guides to discover.
  • Face Painting! First come, first serve.
  • NORY: Enjoy NORY STEM’s hands-on projects: young inventors will be thrilled as they build a motorized propeller project, learning about circuits and components, while older creators transform everyday objects into interactive computer controllers with our captivating robotics activities!
  • Dodge YMCA: lawn games!
  • Private Picassos: present an arts and craft activity!

Don’t miss our kite professionals on site! Professional kite flyer Glenn Davidson will be out on the field flying an array of amazing kites and giving tips, and Charles Stewart of Let’s Fly Kites will be assisting with kite assembly.
