Kite Festival

Saturday, May 16, 2026 · 11:00 am – 3:00 pm

Soccer Fields – Pier 5

Celebrate spring and kick off the season at Brooklyn Bridge Park’s beloved annual Kite Festival!

Watch your kite soar above the city skyline – this is the one day of the year you can fly a kite at Brooklyn Bridge Park! Decorate your own free kite to take home (while supplies last), borrow a kite to fly, or bring your own to show off!

Enjoy live music, crafts, games, and activities from local partners at this family-friendly event. Learn and celebrate global origins of kite flying and kite making from international community partners.

Activities include:

  • Stop by Brooklyn Museum on Wheels on-site activation which will translate the movement, flight, and material innovation of their Iris van Herpen exhibition into a hands-on experience.
  • Decorate your own kite to take home with Private Picassos and Magic Mesita (while supplies last)
  • Park Slope Parents bring their giant magical bubbles!
  • Free face painting by Melinda’s Face Painting (first come, first serve; one facepaint per child)
  • Brooklyn Book Bodega will be giving away books at our reading nook on the turf. Take a book home, or sit down to take a break and read
  • Learn about the science of flight with STEM activities by NORY
  • Learn and make your own Indian art using rice powder and flower petals with The India Center
  • Take part in a Guatemalan community kite-making workshop with Ixmucane Artisan
  • Kite-building and kite-flying instruction from Women for Afghan Women
  • Watch and learn from professional kite flyers on-site including Glenn Davidson
  • Enjoy live group drumming performances from BKSteppers to open the festival and midday!
  • Enjoy a variety of lawn games on the field
  • Live music by Brooklyn funk, R&B, alt rock, indie-pop fusion band The Deep Pockets
