Places to See

PIER 6

A lush, welcoming landscape planted with a diverse array of native plants and trees and large lawns provide a relaxing retreat that transports visitors to a beautiful, natural oasis, while offering spectacular views of New York Harbor.

At Pier 6 you can explore the different playgrounds: climb all the way up the steps and slide down to the bottom at Slide Mountain, jump in Sandbox Village to play in one of the largest sandboxes, or find a swing for any size or adventure at Swing Valley! After all that play, cool off and experiment with water features in the Water Lab and the nearby Exploratory Marsh. There are playgrounds for kids of all ages and adventure level!

Another popular attraction at Pier 6 are the three regulation-size Sand Volleyball courts. Drop into play or join a league for regular matches.

If you have worked up an appetite from all the play, you can find great food and beverage options on the pier nearby. Docked on the north promenade of Pier 6 is Pilot, a rare Grand Banks style schooner built in 1924, that serves sustainable seafood fare. Closer to the entrance to Pier 6 you’ll find Fornino, wood-fired pizzeria with an excellent roof top deck.

Quiet lawns and picnic tables are available at the north west plaza for those looking for a quiet, passive experience. On the western end of Pier 6 enjoy a meal at the Picnic Tables with fantastic views of New York Harbor and the Statue of Liberty. Or lay out a blanket with a picnic or a good book and take in the sun and the views at Liberty Lawn.

The incredible native meadow at the Flower Field at the center of Pier 6 is a show stopper that can’t be missed! All year this incredible half acre field dazzle’s with color and flutters with birds, butterflies, and bumble bees.

Getting to Pier 6 is easy: a ferry dock is located on the southern edge with service to Governors Island and with NYC Ferry. Pier 6 is also accessible by the B63 bus which stops just outside 360 Furman Street.
