DUMBO Boulders to Re-open to the public on April 15th

Brooklyn, NY – The Cliffs Climbing + Fitness and Brooklyn Bridge Park (BBP) are excited to announce the selection of DUMBO Boulders Powered by The Cliffs as the operator of the bouldering walls located in the Main Street section of the Park. The Cliffs were the winning respondent to a request for proposals released by BBP in late 2016. DUMBO Boulders’ soft re-opening to the public will be on April 15th, 2017, with its grand re-opening on May 6th, 2017. This grand re-opening celebration will include a full schedule of instructional clinics, kid-friendly programming and great activations from the local outdoor community. The grand re-opening celebration will culminate in a friendly bouldering challenge, suitable for all ability levels.

This will be DUMBO Boulders’ second year in operation at BBP. In 2016, they managed the new facility on an interim basis for one year, welcoming over 26,000 climbers in its inaugural season. Under the new license, DUMBO Boulders will operate the space for the next five years.

The re-opening of DUMBO Boulders will provide access to the unique sport of rock climbing to visitors of all ages and skill levels in an urban environment typically devoid of such opportunity. The daily admission fee for the facility will be $9, which will include rock climbing shoe rentals. In addition, DUMBO Boulders will offer a variety of free programming for youth and school groups.

“Last year was an amazing experience for myself and my team,” said Ronald Rodriguez, director of DUMBO Boulders Powered by The Cliffs. “I am excited to be able to bring such an amazing sport to the local community for years to come!”

“We’re excited to be a part of the vibrant and diverse community at DUMBO and Brooklyn Bridge Park and to make rock climbing accessible and affordable in this unique urban environment,” said Mike Wolfert, Founder of The Cliffs Climbing + Fitness.

“The inaugural season of the bouldering wall was a resounding success and we are thrilled to welcome DUMBO Boulders back to Brooklyn Bridge Park,” said David Lowin, Brooklyn Bridge Park Interim President. “With its one-of-a-kind location and top-notch operators, we know climbers will continue to enjoy this amenity for years to come.”

DUMBO Boulders, a partnership between The Cliffs Climbing + Fitness and Brooklyn Bridge Park, is North America’s largest outdoor bouldering facility. Designed by Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, Inc., in collaboration with climbing wall specialist Walltopia, DUMBO Boulders offers a spectacular view of the New York City skyline as a waterfront climbing facility.
