25th anniversary season of Brooklyn’s signature outdoor film series celebrates “Women in Hollywood,” with nod to local celebrities
BROOKLYN, NY – Brooklyn Bridge Park today unveiled the lineup for its iconic outdoor summer film series, Pluto TV Movies With A View. The series will bring New Yorkers together under the stars on Thursday nights from July 10th to August 28th at Pier 1 Harbor View Lawn in Brooklyn Bridge Park. Each evening, the lawn opens at 6 PM on a first come, first serve basis, and the movie begins at sunset.
The 25th anniversary season features movies by and starring leading women, with a nod to trailblazing local celebrities who call Brooklyn and New York City home, under the theme “Women in Hollywood.” Last month, Keri Russell and Amy Schumer—both featured in this season’s lineup and longtime friends of Brooklyn Bridge Park—participated in a tell-all conversation on how women are reshaping the entertainment industry. The conversation was the centerpiece of the organization’s 2025 Women’s Lunch that supports the Park.
“For 25 years, Pluto TV Movies With A View has brought New Yorkers together to enjoy unforgettable films in an unforgettable setting,” said Eric Landau, President of Brooklyn Bridge Park. “This year’s ‘Women in Hollywood’ lineup not only celebrates the power of film, but also the incredible contributions women are making in the industry—including powerhouse artists from right here in Brooklyn. We’re thrilled to honor that legacy with another summer of community, culture, and cinema under the stars.”
This year’s lineup of free screenings is presented and sponsored by Pluto TV, the leading free streaming television service, who will be giving away exciting movie night essentials during the pre-screening festivities. Pluto TV is honored to team up with Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Movies With A View to bring movie fans a summer of fun! Pluto TV offers hundreds of live linear channels and thousands of titles on demand, and this summer, the service’s spotlight is on movies with their “Summer of Cinema” programming. The 2025 Pluto TV Movies With A View lineup:
July 10: Bottoms (R, 2023, 91 minutes) – Directed by Brooklyn-based Emma Seligman and co-written with star Rachel Sennott, Bottoms is a hilarious, subversive teen comedy about two queer outcasts who start a self-defense club to gain popularity—and end up sparking a movement. With standout performances by Ayo Edebiri and a sharp satirical edge, this award-winning film reclaims the teen genre for a new generation of feminist, queer storytelling. GLAAD Media Award winner for 2024 Outstanding Wide Release Film.
July 17: Alien (R, 1979, 117 minutes) – Sigourney Weaver’s iconic performance as Ripley in Alien changed the game for women in sci-fi, launching a franchise and inspiring generations. This genre-defining thriller, directed by Ridley Scott, blends suspense, horror, and space drama—and gave us one of cinema’s most enduring action heroines.
July 24: Waitress (PG-13, 2007, 104 minutes) – Starring acclaimed actress, Brooklynite, and member of Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy’s Board Keri Russell, and directed by New Yorker Adrienne Shelly, Waitress is a warm, funny, and bittersweet story of a woman navigating love and motherhood while dreaming of a better life. With its heart-filled script and standout performances, this film laid the groundwork for the Broadway hit it later inspired.
July 31: The Matrix (R, 1999, 136 minutes) – Directed by the Wachowski sisters, The Matrix redefined sci-fi and action cinema. Carrie-Anne Moss’s portrayal as Trinity remains a benchmark for female action roles. This mind-bending tale of simulated reality and rebellion still resonates and looks stunning under the stars. Winner of (4) Academy Awards including Best Film Editing, Best Sound, Best Sound Effects Editing, and Best Visual Effects.
August 7: The Wizard of Oz (PG, 1939, 102 minutes) – Judy Garland’s legendary performance as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz captures the wonder and heart of this timeless tale. One of the most celebrated films in Hollywood history, it’s a magical journey worth revisiting with family, friends, and a picnic on the lawn.
August 14: Trainwreck (R, 2015, 125 minutes) – Written by and starring Brooklyn’s own Amy Schumer—a fan of Brooklyn Bridge Park—Trainwreck delivers sharp laughs and real emotion as it follows a commitment-averse woman who unexpectedly falls in love. Directed by Judd Apatow, this comedy spotlights Schumer’s fearless voice and fierce humor. Critics’ Choice Award for Best Actress; Golden Globe nominations for Best Picture (Comedy) and Best Screenplay (Schumer).
August 21: Hidden Figures (PG, 2016, 126 minutes) – Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, and Janelle Monáe shine as the unsung Black women mathematicians who helped launch NASA’s space program. Based on true events, Hidden Figures is both a celebration of scientific achievement and a powerful story of overcoming systemic racism and sexism. Nominated for 3 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress (Octavia Spencer); Best Adapted Screenplay (Allison Schroeder); Nominated for (2) Golden Globes including Supporting Actress (Octavia Spencer); NAACP Image Award winner for Outstanding Motion Picture and Outstanding Actress (Taraji Henson).
August 28: Public Choice Night
The public is invited to vote for their favorite movie from three iconic titles: Pretty in Pink (PG-13, 1986, 97 minutes), Julie & Julia (PG-13, 2009, 123 minutes), or Marie Antoinette (PG-13, 2006, 123 minutes). Voting will open in early August online at brooklynbridgepark.org, and the winning title will be announced at the August 21 screening.
Guests are encouraged to bring their own picnic blankets, or purchase one on site, and kindly reminded that chairs and dogs are not permitted on the lawn, and glass bottles and outside alcohol are never allowed in the Park. Guests may bring their own food. Movie concession snacks, water, soft drinks, and alcoholic beverages (for those 21+) will be available for sale at our on-site bar by Fornino.
Since its launch in 2000, Pluto TV’s Movies With A View series at Brooklyn Bridge Park has entertained over half a million moviegoers, making it one of NYC’s most popular outdoor film series. The films are selected by a Volunteer Film Committee and supported in part by funding from the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs and the New York State Council on the Arts.
