(New York, NY) June 5, 2012— The NYC Fieldhouse, a not-for-profit organization which has offered to underwrite the design and construction of a year round, multi-purpose recreational and cycling facility in Brooklyn Bridge Park, today announced three upcoming community forums. Fieldhouse staff, along with the facility’s architect and representatives of Brooklyn Bridge Park, will be on hand to discuss the project and listen to the community’s comments and feedback on programming and overall design.
The proposed facility will be located on Furman Street near Pier 5 in Brooklyn Bridge Park, a site now occupied by an outmoded one-story warehouse building used by the park for storage and construction and programmed for ongoing operations and maintenance uses. The Fieldhouse offer will bring park users and the community the all-weather sports and recreation venue that has always been included in the General Project Plan for the park but was unattainable due to financial constraints.
The first forum will take place on June 18 at the Long Island College Hospital, located at 339 Hicks Street in Cobble Hill, from 6:30pm-8:15pm. On June 20, a Red Hook forum will take place at the South Brooklyn Community High School, located at 173 Conover Street, from 6:30pm-8:15pm. The third forum will be held on June 25 in Brooklyn Heights/Downtown Brooklyn at the Callahan Center at St. Francis College, 180 Remsen Street, from 6:30pm-8:15pm. A fourth forum will be scheduled in DUMBO at a later date.
Light refreshments will be served. While no RSVP is required, for planning purposes, members of the community are requested to email NYCFieldhouse@gmail.com with the forum location they wish to attend.
