Statement on the Passing of Robert S. Rubin, 1931-2018

March 3, 2018

by Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy on Mar 23, 2018

It is with great sadness that Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy notes the death of Robert S. Rubin, who passed away this past weekend at the age of 86.

A prominent civic leader and philanthropist who contributed to the advancement of many Brooklyn organizations, Bob Rubin was an early advocate for the construction of Brooklyn Bridge Park and contributor to the Brooklyn Bridge Park Coalition, now Conservancy. Known for his financial acumen, Bob Rubin played a leading role in the community’s negotiations with the Port Authority, the City, and the State to convert the abandoned piers on the Brooklyn Heights waterfront to the park we have today.

We are grateful for Bob’s visionary leadership and his commitment to Brooklyn Bridge Park and the overall betterment of Brooklyn.
