Environmental Education Center Celebrates Woodlands

October 11, 2016

by Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy on Oct 11, 2016

A new season brings a new theme at the Environmental Education Center. This month, the Center will focus on plants and woodlands! Here are the top 5 reasons to come explore the new theme during open hours:

I. New games and activities
Learn a little bit about animal tracks, forest habitats, and seed dispersal in a fun way with our newest interactive activities!

2. Meet animals commonly found in woodland areas
Our newest critters, a box turtle and several juvenile Eastern red-spotted newts, are two examples of common woodland creatures native to New York State. Come pay them a visit and you might even get the chance to watch them get fed!

3. Crafts galore!
Every month we have a new craft during open hours. To start off the theme, you can weave your very own spider web!

4. Relax and read
Snuggle up on our comfy beanbags and discover something new by grabbing a book such as “Why Do Leaves Change Color” by Betsy Maestro. Our reading library is stocked with new books about bats, trees, hibernation, seeds, and much more!

5. Experiments and microscopes
Throughout the next few months, visitors will have the chance to act like real scientists by sketching what they see under a microscope and observing how seeds sprout, how mushrooms grow, and how plants take up water!

Be sure to visit regularly to participate in all of the fun! Open hours at the Environmental Education Center are every Tuesday and Thursday, 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm, and Saturday and Sunday, 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm.
