It’s that exciting time of year when the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy (Conservancy) celebrates fall. As visitors put on warm layers to enjoy picturesque walks through the park, the Conservancy, in partnership with Brooklyn Bridge Park (BBP), is pleased to host the sixth annual Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 24. This year will be better than ever as we also celebrate the opening of new parkland at Pier 6. The fun-filled day of activities begins with a ribbon cutting at 10:30 am. Special thanks to sponsors Sugar in the Raw, Airbnb, Better Homes and Gardens, Del Monte, and Systane.
This event marks the close of a summer filled with over 500 free public programs and activities in Brooklyn Bridge Park. Last year, the Conservancy welcomed over 4,000 park visitors to Harvest Festival.
With the completion of Pier 6, BBP has opened six acres of new parkland this year, bringing the park to nearly 75% complete. Designed by Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, the new parkland comprises winding pathways, a centralized flower meadow and lush perimeter plantings that will introduce new ecologies to the southern end of the park. Large lawn areas will provide space for park programs and events.
“Now in its sixth season, Harvest Festival allows visitors from Brooklyn, New York, and beyond to enjoy the fall season in Brooklyn Bridge Park,” said Nancy Webster, Executive Director of the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy. “We’re grateful for our fantastic community partners and their many activities that keep the park thriving well after the summer season is over.”
“This is an exciting day for Brooklyn Bridge Park and we are thrilled to celebrate the opening of Pier 6 and Harvest Festival,” said Brooklyn Bridge Park President Regina Myer. “With its lush lawns, flower fields and magnificent views of the Harbor, Pier 6 provides a serene space we know our visitors will love.”
All are encouraged to come in Halloween costumes and enjoy a day packed with fall fun! Get ready to make art with the UNI Project, get active with Dodge YMCA’s obstacle courses, join tours of the newest section of the park, try tasty snacks from Hill Country, fashion a scarecrow at Construction Kids Cornfield, make instruments with the Little Orchestra Society, enjoy face painting, take photos at the free pumpkin patch photo booth, decorate pumpkins and much more!
This year’s musical guests Rolie Polie Guacamole, Shine and the Moonbeams, and The Deedle Deedle Dee’s will ensure that guests, young and old, dance the day away.
