The Conservancy amplifies Brooklyn Bridge Park as a living laboratory for understanding the ecology, history and built environment of Brooklyn’s waterfront. Our programming prioritizes impactful experiences that aim to inspire environmental stewardship and life-long learning for all in Brooklyn Bridge Park.
Fall registration is now open and field trips are available to book on a first come, first served basis. Program times, length and prices vary by offering. Select “Field Trips” to learn more and book.
Field trips range from 60-85 minutes and cost between $175-275 depending on the program and grade level booked. Title 1 schools are eligible for a limited number of free field trips, excluding a non-refundable $26.50 booking fee. Select the field trip option on the below calendar to view each field trip’s duration and price details.

Investigate the rich ecology of Brooklyn Bridge Park during a trip to the Conservancy’s Environmental Education Center. Students will visit four stations that focus on habitats and inhabitants of the park and the neighboring estuary. They will have an opportunity to interact with animals, make in-depth observations about featured organisms and explore our Discovery Station: an interactive display that highlights the Park’s ecology, history and sustainable features.

Examine the history of New York Harbor’s keystone species: the eastern oyster. Through hands-on investigation, students use the oyster gardens at Brooklyn Bridge Park to investigate East River habitat. Students will encounter the various species that reside in an oyster garden, take scientific measurements, and discover the oyster’s historical and ecological importance to the New York Harbor.
Location: Pier 5, Fully Outdoors

Immerse yourself in the dramatic history and innovative design of the bridge that changed the Brooklyn landscape. Students explore basic bridge engineering concepts and walk to the first tower of the bridge, weather permitting, for an activity.
Location: Begins inside Environmental Education Center, ends with walk on the Brooklyn Bridge.

Dig into the dynamic rock cycle, learn how rocks are formed, and discover the many types of rocks found in the park.
Location: Environmental Education Center, with brief outdoor experience.

Explore the East River estuary and tidal strait. Students investigate and assess the health of the East River by observing, gathering samples, and performing simple water tests. While analyzing specimens, students discuss habitat, characteristics, and environmental adaptations of local organisms.
Location: Time is split between the Environmental Education Center and nearby Pebble Beach.

What’s in the East River water? Is it a healthy place for marine life? Educators will collect water samples and examine the water quality by conducting a series of water chemistry tests, such as temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, and pH. Students will also have the opportunity to see water samples under a microscope and search for plankton, as well as pollution.

Discover the underwater world of the East River. Instructors drag a 20-foot seine net along the bottom of the river bed to catch, identify, and release fish and invertebrates. With prior permission and signed waivers, students over the age of 14 receive instruction and an opportunity to work the nets.
Location: Pier 4 Beach, Fully Outdoors

Examine the sustainable and green design of the park including water conservation, ecological initiatives, and material reuse. A guided tour is embedded with activities and challenges for students that promote a deeper understanding of these innovative concepts.

Noise Mitigation Case Study: Brooklyn Bridge Park: Learn how the sound attenuation berms at BBP help reduce noise pollution by simple in-park data collection or using the data from an ArcGIS StoryMap! This lesson is one component of the Sound and Noise Education Module created by NYC DEP.
Learn basic tree anatomy and use age-appropriate field guides to explore and identify the diverse tree species in the park. Students use observation and scientific tools to estimate tree age, diameter, and circumference.

Use the park’s waterfront location to explore attributes of weather. Students use simple weather tools, scavenger hunts, and interactive activities to help understand weather patterns and the water cycle. The class is tailored to address weather conditions of the day.

The cost for each field trip ranges from $175-$275 including our non-refundable booking fee (Non-Title 1 Schools $25; Title 1 Schools $26.50).
Title 1 schools are eligible to book field trips at no cost, excluding a non-refundable booking fee of $26.50; however, the number of bookings is limited to 6 per school, per year.
Field Trips run for 60-85 minutes depending on the offering and grade level.
There is a maximum capacity of 35 students and 6 chaperones per program.
Each field trip offering can accommodate a maximum of 35 students and 6 chaperones; however, we recommend booking a separate program for each grade and class.
Our field trip offerings are adaptable for all types of learners! When booking your program, you will be prompted to select your class type (e.g. ELL, 12:1, General). When filling out your reservation form, please be sure to include as much detail as you can regarding your students’ learning needs in the “Notes” section. If you have specific questions about which program is best for your students’ needs, contact the Education Department at education@brooklynbridgepark.org.
Credit card is the fastest and preferred payment method; however, it is possible to pay by check or through the NYC DOE’s vendor system. Contact the Education Department at education@brooklynbridgepark.org to inquire about using one of these payment methods.
Bridge Park Conservancy may elect to cancel your booked program in the event of inclement weather, such as a severe thunderstorm, freezing temperatures, heat advisory or air quality event. If a program is canceled due to inclement weather, we will make every effort to reschedule the program free of charge or provide a full refund minus the non-refundable booking fee (Non-Title 1 Schools: $25; Title 1 Schools: $26.50).
All programs end at the designated time, regardless of arrival time. Groups that arrive within 30 minutes of the scheduled time will receive an abbreviated version of the program. Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy reserves the right to cancel and charge groups that fail to arrive within 30 minutes of their scheduled time per the cancellation policy outlined below.
Bookings may be rescheduled one time free of charge. Additional requests to reschedule will incur a non-refundable booking fee (Non-Title 1 Schools: $25; Title 1 Schools: $26.50). Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy reserves the right to charge groups that request to reschedule their bookings less than 2 weeks prior to the program date per the cancellation policy outlined below.
Non-Title 1 Schools: Cancellations received 2 weeks prior to the scheduled program receive a FULL refund minus non-refundable booking fee of $25.Cancellations received less than 2 weeks, but more than 24 hours prior to the scheduled program receive a PARTIAL refund of $75. Cancellations received less than 24 hours prior to the scheduled program receive NO refund.
Title 1 Schools: Cancellations received 2 weeks prior to the scheduled program are only liable for the non-refundable $26.50 booking fee. Cancellations received less than 2 weeks, but more than 24 hours prior to the scheduled program will be charged a fee of $75. Cancellations received less than 24 hours prior to the scheduled program will be charged the full class price, ranging from $175 – 275 depending upon the program. Failure to complete payment may result in an inability to book future programs.

Field trips incorporate an outdoor element regardless of season and in all moderate weather conditions. Review our Inclement Weather Policy for further details and instruct students and chaperones to dress appropriately for the elements, be it rain, heat or cold.

Water fountains are available near all public restrooms. We suggest having students bring their own water bottles to refill as needed, especially in hot weather conditions.
