Plants are incredibly important in an urban environment because they provide habitat, assist in absorbing rainfall, and work to improve air quality. Many of the plants in Brooklyn Bridge Park are native or local species, making them great for attracting local wildlife.

FLOWER SCAVENGER HUNT

Print out this plant scavenger hunt and head to Brooklyn Bridge Park to search for flowers in bloom. The best time of year to do this activity is spring or early summer.

VIRTUAL OPEN HOURS

Watch and listen as educators examine plant parts under a microscope and venture along the park’s trails for a look at recent flower blooms!

TREES OF THE PARK WEBINAR

Get to know the trees of Brooklyn Bridge Park with the Park’s horticulturist, Evelyn Manlove! Learn about the most common and interesting trees you can find in the Park, as well as some tips for easy identification throughout all seasons.

Our Trees of Brooklyn Bridge Park field trip lesson plans feature activities that can easily fit into any classroom unit on plants, trees, and/or living things. Designed for ages K-1.

LESSON 1 (PRE-TRIP): Learn the parts of a plant and plant life cycle with a fun art project and a make-your-own storybook.

LESSON 2 (POST-TRIP): Discover the different shapes and colors of NYC tree leaves and play a fun game of “guess who” with a nature twist.
