Staff Profile: Curt Wilson

Curt WilsonWe’re spotlighting our team — the people who show up every day to make Brooklyn Bridge Park the special place that it is. Today, we highlight Curt Wilson of the Park’s maintenance facilities department.

Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself. What’s your name, and what do you do here?

A: My name is Curt Wilson. I’ve worked in the maintenance facilities department for the past two years. I’m an all-rounder. I do maintenance, repairs, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, electrical work, and basically everything! A real jack of all trades.

Q: What made you want to work at Brooklyn Bridge Park?

A: The environment! It’s a beautiful place with real opportunity to work as a team. At my last job, I was always working alone. Here, I get to be around people, have conversations, and be part of a community.

Q: What’s the most rewarding part of your job?

A: Getting the job done and hearing positive feedback from visitors. People always say, “Nice job, keep up the good work.” It feels good to know you’re making a difference and helping people enjoy a beautiful Park.

Q: What’s something you wish more people knew about Brooklyn Bridge Park?

A: It’s free and open to everyone. It’s a beautiful green space where you can relax, have a meeting, or just hang out— as long as you follow the rules!

Q: Do you have a favorite part of the Park?

A: The soccer fields — I love soccer. I also like the fishing stations near the water.

Q: Is there a project you’re especially proud of?

A: I worked on a gender-neutral bathroom that came out really nice. Every maintenance project is different, but that one stands out.

Q: What do you like to do outside of work?

A:  Mostly family life. I used to play a lot of soccer, and I still watch when I can. My grandkids keep me busy, and I’m starting to learn baseball because my grandson plays for a club in Long Island — and he’s a Yankees fan!

Q: If you could have a superpower to make your job easier, what would it be?

A: To be able to fix every problem instantly — one and done, no problem!

Q: What advice would you give to someone who wants to work in a public park?

A: Be ready to learn. Things might be different from what you’re used to, and you’ll need to adapt. Respect the way things are done and learn from the people who have been there before you.

Q: What are some of the best parts about working here?

A: Besides the beautiful environment, it’s great to see people enjoying themselves — playing pickleball, basketball, soccer, just having fun. It makes the work feel even more worthwhile.
